Breakfast Lies, 2023
Breakfast, a normal school day, the radio was on and my gaze was drawn to the packaging of my cereal and the cow's milk I was drinking with it.
Sometimes there were comics on the packaging, or riddles, or some kind of graphics with happy animals saying how great this product was for children.
When I grew up and started taking pictures, I was confronted with so much from my past and I realized how easy it was to seduce and influence people with images. Color photography glamorized the world for us, American photography icons embellished the urban and capitalist aesthetics of gas stations, sports cars, soft drinks, cigarettes, and alcohol with their stylish images, though unintentionally.
To this day, it is still commonly assumed that milk and dairy products such as cheese, butter, or cream are produced without animal suffering. Is it still morally justifiable to consume dairy products when there are alternatives that can be produced without animal suffering, have a much smaller environmental impact, and are clearly healthier for humans?
